Read the sermon text: John 7:1-24

Read the sermon summary: We all long to hear the words of the master from Jesus’ parable, “Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” But have you ever begun to wonder how an adjective such as faithful can be used legitimately of you? Are you more aware of your unfaithfulness than anything good you’ve done? Our passage for this week introduces a larger section which includes Jesus' teachings and rising tension with the Jews. By the end of chapter 8, they’re ready to stone him. The key to our text for this Sunday is verse 18, “the one who seeks the glory of him who sent him is true, and in him there is no falsehood.” This trueness of Jesus… this faithfulness is contrasted with that of his brothers, the crowds, and the Jews. His faithfulness is also contrasted with our unfaithfulness. We are reminded that our hope of hearing God’s words of commendation isn’t dependent on our own faithfulness, but on the faithfulness of our Savior, Jesus Christ. And then, as we are filled with his Holy Spirit, we are enabled to begin living lives of truth which bring glory to God.

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
O God my Father
There is no shadow
Of turning with Thee
Thou changest not
Thy compassions they fail not
As Thou hast been
Thou forever wilt be

Chorus
Great is Thy faithfulness
Great is Thy faithfulness
Morning by morning
New mercies I see
All I have needed
Thy hand hath provided
Great is Thy faithfulness
Lord unto me

Summer and winter
And springtime and harvest
Sun moon and stars
In their courses above
Join with all nature
In manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness
Mercy and love

Pardon for sin
And a peace that endureth
Thy own dear presence
To cheer and to guide
Strength for today
And bright hope for tomorrow
Blessings all mine
With ten thousand beside
