Read the sermon text: John 1:35-51

Read the sermon summary: This passage is an extension of the previous section, in which John the Witness bears witness to Jesus, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world. The author signals this by his witness once again as he says, “Behold, the Lamb of God.” This time, however, we see that the promise of verse 7, He came to bear witness, “that all might believe through him.” John’s disciples are those believing ones who begin to believe in Jesus and follow him. In preparation for the sermon consider the following questions: What titles or descriptions do these disciples ascribe to Jesus? What words are repeated throughout this section and why? How might the word "follow” in this section refer to something more than simply walking behind someone who is leading?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

There Is A Redeemer
There is a Redeemer Jesus God's own Son
Precious Lamb of God Messiah Holy One

Chorus
Thank You O my Father
For giving us Your Son
And leaving Your Spirit
Till the work on earth is done

Jesus my Redeemer name above all names
Precious Lamb of God Messiah
O for sinners slain

When I stand in glory I will see His face
There I'll serve my King forever
In that holy place
