Read the sermon text: Genesis 45-46:26

Read the sermon summary: In chapter 44 we saw the evidence of Judah’s repentance come to full expression when he offered himself in the place of his younger brother, Benjamin. Our passage for this week is brimming with joy, hope, and the prospect of all things being made right again. Brothers are reconciled with one another. Hopes for a land and an abundant future are renewed. Israel’s heart is brought to life as he hears and believes that Joseph is alive. Promises are reaffirmed. Although Israel has been through much trial and difficulty, God’s promise to Abraham to make him into a great nation is as true as when he first made it. We learn from these episodes that God is sovereignly working his plan to fulfill his promises. In doing so, he is teaching his people to trust him. Consider: What does this passage teach us about forgiveness? What does it teach us about God’s character? How do you think this passage, within its surrounding context, points us to Christ?
