Read the sermon text: 1 Corinthians 15:1-11

Read the sermon summary: You may have heard stories about husbands and wives, once all their children leave home. They wake up one morning and feel like they don’t even know their one another. It’s like all their attention and devotion was given to the kids and there was nothing left for one another. Well, that doesn’t just happen overnight. It’s a sad, slow drift which happens to many. But is it possible to drift away from faith in the Lord in a similar way? While we know that God is sovereign in our salvation, the Bible also tells us there is a sort of faith that is in vain. In other words, it is not an enduring, saving faith. Some drift away from faith because of trials. Others because of fleeting pleasures in this life. Still others may slowly drift away from the church until there’s nothing left of their faith. What’s the solution to this? In this passage, Paul reminds the Corinthians of that which is of first importance: the gospel. Christ died for our sins, was buried, and rose again on the third day. This is the message we need to hear week after week and day after day. For it is by the gospel we have our very existence. It is by the gospel we are being saved. How can we open up ourselves to continual receive this message? How can we keep from forgetting it?

Read the following song lyrics in relation to the sermon:

It Is Finished
Once and for all
Once and for all
You offered up Your life
For one and all
For one and all
The perfect sacrifice

Atoning blood was shed
Love conquered when You said

It is finished
It is done
To the world salvation comes
Hallelujah we're alive
Hell was silenced when You cried
It is finished
It is finished

Who is this King
Who is this King
So mighty and so strong
He is the One
He is the One
The earth has waited for

God's remedy for sin
With mercy for all men

The earth shook and trembled the sun bowed its head
The veil of the temple was opened for man
As Jesus went down in the cold of the grave
Defeated the darkness when He overcame
The keys of the kingdom were placed into hands
Of children and priests and of fishers of men
Through all generations His voice will be heard
Creation resounds the victorious words

It is finished
It is done
To the world salvation comes
Hallelujah we're alive
Hell was silenced when You cried
It is finished
It is done
Now completed the work of love
Hallelujah He's alive
Join the song of the ransomed Bride
It is finished
It is finished
It is finished
